Lots more walking around yesterday before meeting in the lobby at 6:30 PM to head over to The Kitano Hotel for pianist Jeb Patton and his trio. The Kitano is very very high end and actually when I was pricing things out I looked at the lunch menu! When I got there I had a heart attack but all was good! The room is really intimate, we basically filled up more than 1/2 of it. The only drag about the space is there is this 4 x 4 post in the middle of the room. It’s not the end of the world but if you wanna sit at the bar it can be a drag. The trio was really phenomenal. Jeb’s arrangements are really creative and he really swings. Joe Saunders on bass and Pete Van Nostrand on drums.
After set one about 1/2 the people stayed and the other 1/2 headed up to Showman’s Lounge in Harlem to hear tenor saxophonist Jerry Weldon with Adam Scone on organ and Rudy Petschauer on drums. Jerry is so burning! He was hootin an hollerin’ as per usual and the 10 of us that went had and awesome time! Pics to come a bit later!
Tonight its off to GBs Juke Joint!
