2012 In Review Part 2

1st – the summer got off to a great start with a private party that I got to play with Lewis Nash and Peter Washington at my friend Joan’s house. It was a blast! My dad got in on the fun as well!

Private Party — July 1, 2012 (1)-2

15th – Ross Taggart and Bill Coon play the music of Bill Evans and Jim Hall was a wonderful evening of music.  Check out a tune HERE.

10th / 11th – New York Trumpeter Jim Rotondi was back in town as part of Musifest Vancouver and its always great to play with him.  Ross was on the gig as well!

24th/25th –  I had the chance to play with great vocalist Maureen Kennedy from Toronto who really is a first class lady and singer.

9th – The Bridge Quartet featuring Darrell Grant, Phil Dwyer, Allan Jones and Tom Wakeling was electric during their two night stint. What a phenomenal band!

15th, 21st/22nd – Several hits with my good friend Ian Hendrickson-Smith at the Pender Harbour Jazz Festival as well as The Cellar. It’s always great to play with him!  We recorded live at the club but nothing will likely come of it.

28t to 30th – our 12 Year Anniversary with PJ PERRY, JERRY WELDON, CHRIS GESTRIN and RUDY PETSCHAUER.  This was a great weekend. Weldon and PJ on the same stage! That’s a lot of saxophone!

Cellar 12th Anniversary with PJ Perry - Jerry Weldon Quartet — September 30, 2012

20th – Human Spirit with Essiet Essiest on bass, Orrin Evans on piano, Mark Taylor on alto saxophone, Thomas Marriott on trumpet and Matt Jorgenson on bass.  These guys always rock the place when they’re here but the addition of the special guests added more spark than usual.

26th/27th – Brad Turner’s Quartet of Joe Poole, Miles Black and Andre Lachance was joined by NYC tenor saxophonist Dayna Stephens three nights of some pretty powerful and moving music.

9th/10th/11th The highlight of this months was the appearance of drum legend Albert Tootie Heath and NYC pianist Jeb Patton.  Joining them was the always swinging Jodi Proznick!

1st and 2nd – MIKE LEDONNE and the boys showed up for a live recording and an album we did get! Music of the highest calibre was made by Joe Farnsworth on drums, John Webber on bass and Mike LeDonne on piano. It was spectacular.  The following day (December 3rd) my good friend, saxophonist Steve Kaldestad joined the group for a recording of his own that is gonna be a wonderful recording!

21st, 22nd 23rd – The annual B3 Kings gigs at The Cellar are always a highlight.  This year the band hit a stride musically and who wise that it hasn’t hit before (IMO).  The only drag was that my saxophone fell off the stand on the final night which was discouraging but thankfully I had my melodica!

Happy New Year and best to you and yours for 2013!
