“The Start Of Something Big” is the theme of 2013, at least the beginning of it anyways. Im at the beginning of what appears to be a very productive year musically and although tired and a bit beaten down, I am excited. It all starts this weekend with a reprise of New Year’s Eve. I get to hit this weekend with 4 of my favorite people: IAN HENDRICKSON-SMITH tenor sax, DAVE SIKULA tenor sax, SELENO CLARK organ and JULIAN MACDONOUGH drums. New Years was a hit and I can’t wait to do it again this weekend!
There isn’t much time to rest after these gigs as late on Tuesday night I meet up with TIDLEN WEBB piano, JESSE CAHILL drums and KEN LISTER bass to head down to Portland to meet up with STEVE DAVIS trombone and begin what is going to be a long but exhilarating tour with this quintet. Please tell your friends to come out and see us! We got right across the country. The itinerary is as follows:
January 9th – Ivories Lounge, Portland, Oregon
January 10th – Tulas Jazz Club, Seattle, Washington
January 11th/12th – Cory Weeds’ Cellar Jazz Club, Vancouver, BC
January 13th – Amadeus Project, Bellingham, Washington
January 17th – Wine Ohs, Calgary, Alberta
January 18th – Ye Olde Jazz Bar, Medicine Hat, Alberta
January 19th – Yardbird Suite, Edmonton, Alberta
January 22nd – Upstairs Jazz Bar, Montreal, Quebec
January 23rd – National Arts Center, Ottawa, Ontario
January 24th – The Rex, Toronto, Ontario
January 25th – The Jazz Room, Waterloo, Ontario
January 26th – The Aeolian Hall, London, Ontario
January 27th – Lovin’ Cups Bistro, Rochester, New York
January 28th – Black Eyed Sally’s, Hartford, Connecticut
January 30th – Smoke Jazz Club, New York, New York
This will be a long gruelling tour but there isn’t anything I would rather do than play music with these guys every night. I’m particularly excited about the last night as we’ll be recording at my favorite jazz club SMOKE to end the tour!
I get a bit of a break when I return but not much. I will be playing at The Envision Jazz Festival with the Night Crawlers, also adjudicating the festival all while hosting the great Russell Malone at The Cellar for three nights.
In February I get to play two nights with Jennifer Scott and Brasileira and then on February 16th the OFFICIAL release of WITH BENEFITS – THE CORY WEEDS / BILL COON QUARTET. Special guest LEWIS NASH will join us along with JODI PROZNICK!!
I’m a lucky guy!
