CELLAR LIVE RELEASES MAKE UP 10% OF NEXT WEEK’S JAZZ WEEK CHART

When I started Cellar Live in 2001, I truly and honestly believed in my heart of hearts that we would only release one record!! Then I promised myself that we’d release only one or two more…but we got a loan from the Canadian Youth Business Foundation that helped us release about 10 more albums – and it kept going and kept going.

I was contacted by a Japanese Distributor in 2004 which helped get our releases out there. Then at MIDEM in France (2005), we secured a distribution deal with Allegro Music in the United States (soon to be switching to Distribution 13). Last year we signed a worldwide deal with Planetworks, who will be taking over our Canadian Distribution as well.  All of this has been happening during a time when the record business seems to be declining greatly.

I’m under no false belief that the continuously-changing parameters of the recording industry won’t catch up with Cellar Live some day though, slowing things down and forcing the label to re-think the way we distribute recordings. For the time being, I’m having a really great time!

I just received word from LISA REEDY PROMOTIONS that 5 of our releases will grace the JAZZWEEK CHART next week:

#21 – Peter Bernstein with the Tilden Webb Trio
#32 – Tardo Hammer
#34 – Ian Hendrickson-Smith
#36 – Miles Black Trio with Grant Stewart
#43 – Mike LeDonne Trio

That makes up 10% of the whole chart! There is such a great community of people that help make this label work and I’m so proud and humbled to work with everyone!

Thank you!!!

  1. That is just amazing Mr Weeds, you fully deserve all the success that comes your way. The work you have put in over the last thirteen years to make the Cellar Jazz Club one of the most intimate venues worldwide with, without doubt, many of the very best musicians whether local or international performing seven nights a week is an incredible achievement, long may it last. Thank you Cory

  2. Great music deserves recognition. I’m playing Ian Hendrickson-Smith and Peter Bernstein on the Jazz Spectrum next week and Tardo Hammer the following week and featured Miles Black and Miles LeDonne on previous shows. Great work, Cory!
